Find your UBC admission decision on the Student Service Centre

So you’ve applied to UBC, and now you’re wondering, “Did they get my documents?” and “When will I receive my admission decision?”

Tens of thousands of UBC applicants from across Canada and around the world have the same questions. Here at the UBC Admissions Office, my colleagues and I are doing our best to read every applicant’s Personal Profile and transcript as carefully — and as quickly — as we can. We are swamped with applicants’ documents, but we’re working very hard to give you a decision as early as possible.

As soon as we have evaluated your application, you will see our decision on the UBC Student Service Centre.

If you have sent your documents to us within the last five to six weeks, please be patient with us and we will update your status shortly.

In the meantime, consider coming out to one of our applicant information events, where you can get answers to all your burning questions about life at UBC. We have events scheduled for Canadian, American, and international students. Please join us!

  1. Hi,
I have been accepted for my first choice as a transfer student. How would I be able to also get my second choice evaluated? I got early admissions as I still have to submit my final transcript.

    1. Hi Victoria,

You can request your second choice be evaluated by emailing admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca. Be advised that requests like this are typically not considered until after April 15, but I still recommend you submit your request asap.

      Best,

      Anthony

  2. Hi there,
I applied to UBC as a 2nd-year transfer student and the SSC showed me this message for my first choice program (BCOM Sauder): “We have received and evaluated your interim transcript. Based upon your interim grades, we are unable to offer you early admission (admission based on your interim transcript). However, we would like to have the opportunity to review your final official transcript before providing you with our final decision. Please arrange for your final official transcript to be provided as soon as it is available and no later than May 15th.” I should just mail my official transcript to UBC once ready, am I right?

    1. Hi Chloe,

Yes. We want to see your final grades from this semester. As soon as they are available at the end of April, order another transcript sent to UBC. Remember, the transcript will go directly to UBC from the sending institution, and not to you first.

      Best,

      Anthony

  3. Hello,
I’ve applied to UBC and listed the Vancouver campus as my first choice , I am rethinking my desicion and I want to attend the okanagan campus . Is it possible for me to change it now?
    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Raghad,

Maybe. We review requests like yours on a case by case basis. Simply email your request to admissions.inquiry@ubc.ca and we will see what we can do.

      Best,

  4. Hi,
I have received the following notice for my first choice.
” We will continue to monitor your competitiveness relative to the rest of the applicant pool and any changes to your application status will be noted on the Student Service Centre on or before May 15. You do not need to submit any additional documents or transcripts.”

Does this mean that my second choice will now be evaluated or does this occur after May 15th?

    1. Hi Ben,

Yes, your second choice will be considered asap. You also have an application status for your second choice, so keep an eye on your status for the latest.

      Best,

      Anthony

  5. Hi,
I am currently an American post secondary student hoping to transfer to UBC in the fall. I have sent in my transcript from the fall semester. However, because my school is on a quarter system, I have just received my grades for the Winter Quarter. Is there an email I can send an electronic transcript to? I want to be evaluated with as many post secondary credits as possible.

    1. Hello Jason,

Emailed transcripts will not be accepted as official – you will need to organize having an official copy sent by your institution to UBC if you would like your most recent courses to be used in the admissions evaluation. More information on sending your transcripts can be found here: http://you.ubc.ca/applying-ubc/how-to-apply/how-to-submit-documents/

I hope this helps clarify! Sincerely,
      Jonathan

  6. I’ve been accepted to my second choice. Deadline for accepting offers is May 1st. Will my first choice still be considered? Do I need to do anything to ensure my first choice is still considered? Should I accept my second choice offer at this stage?

    1. Hi Elizabeth,

Congrats on your admission to UBC! Your first choice will still be considered if you do nothing, but there is no down side to accepting your second choice offer. To secure your current offer, accept the offer and indicate that you still want to be considered for your first choice. You will still be given every opportunity for admission for your first choice.

      Cheers,

      Anthony

  7. Hi,
I have applied and submitted all of the necessary documents but I still haven’t heard anything! It has been saying it will be a 2-4 week wait since I first applied, is there any chance I could be missing something?
    Thanks!

    1. Dear Natalie,
thank you for your question. Please review your application status on the Student Service Centre as that is where the most up-to-date information will be. If any documents are missing, it will be indicated there. It can take some time for an application to reviewed. Thank you for your continued patience.

      Sincerely,
      Damara

  8. Hi,
I have applied to Undergrad Applied sciences program at both UBC-V and UBC-O, my status for both of the programs has remained the same for approximately 5 weeks.

“Your file is ready for an evaluation! We ask for your patience as this may take some time. We will be in touch with you by email should we require additional information. Please continue to check the status of your application on the Student Service Centre.”

I am curious if the decision should be made soon, or does this mean something else.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Bilal,

The delay could be for a number of reasons. Email us at recruitment.ok@ubc.ca, please include your student number, and we will get back to you promptly.

      Best,

      Anthony

  9. Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a parent of two Albert students who applied for computer science.

They have not received admission offer yet. I suppose that they did not get offers because their English marks is not competitive even though their math and science marks verify well-qualified students.

Therefore, I would like to know that their admissions are considered again next year if they register for UBC ESL course and improve English.

    Thanks,

    Parent being desperate

    1. Dear caring parent,

Thanks for your inquiry. I’m sure it’s very stressful to try to help your children through the university application process. Please ask both of your students to check their application status online at – https://ssc.adm.ubc.ca/sscportal/. That is where they will find the most up-to-date information. It’s difficult to answer your question without knowing the situation for each of your students. Please ask them to review their status online and then ask them to reach out with specific questions here – http://you.ubc.ca/contact-us/

      Sincerely,
      Damara

  10. If my application status is this, “Thank you for self-reporting your grades. We will now review your full academic profile alongside your personal profile and will provide you with an admissions decision as soon as possible. All updates and decisions will be reflected here on your Student Service Centre first, so we encourage you to check your application status often. We thank you for your patience during our evaluation of your application and we hope to give you a decision by April 15th.” Does this mean my application still hasn’t been looked at?

    1. Hi Avi,

This simply means a review is still happening. Most delays this time of year are due to the personal profile, and getting the profile reviewed and scored. Nothing more for you to do. Just be patient and keep an eye on your application status for the latest.

      Thanks,

      Anthony

  11. Hi,

I am a parent of the student who admitted to Kinesiology coming this September. I know is quite a bit earlier to ask the last day of the examination on December, But I appreciate if you provide me the December’s calendar for my reference.

    Thank you,
    May

    1. Hello May,
all academic calendar dates for the 2017/2018 school year are here –http://www.calendar.ubc.ca/Vancouver/index.cfm?page=deadlines

      Sincerely,

      Damara

  12. Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a parent of a student applying for Computer Science.
I do not understand what you are doing whenever my daughter check her status and say to me the same thing mentioned below.

    Student #: 85837219
    Status
Your file is ready for an evaluation! We ask for your patience as this may take some time. We will be in touch with you by email should we require additional information. Please continue to check the status of your application on the Student Service Centre.

It is almost the end of April and the status says “ready for an evaluation”.
That means you even do not start to review her documents?

I know how you are trying to do your best in order to evaluate applicants` documents fairly. However, you did not update her file for about 2months opposite to what you promised and I have been feeling stressful too much.

    Thanks,

    Neal Pyo

    1. Hi Neal,

This simply means a review is still happening. Most delays this time of year are due to the personal profile, and getting the profile reviewed and scored. Nothing more for you to do. Just be patient and keep an eye on the application status for the latest.

If your student emails us at recruitment.ok@ubc.ca we would be happy to take a look and make sure all is good.

      Thanks,

      Anthony

  13. Hi,
I received this message update on my SSC I am curious if I am placed on the wait-list or does this mean something else?

We have evaluated your application and due to the competitive nature of the program to which you have applied, we are not able to offer you admission at this time. We will continue to monitor your competitiveness relative to the rest of the applicant pool and any changes to your application status will be noted on the Student Service Centre on or before May 15. You do not need to submit any additional documents or transcripts.

Also, I have applied to another program at the Okanagan Campus, is that still being evaluated or must this first choice’s program decision be made first. Thank you!

    -Bilal Khan

    1. Hi Bilal,

The message essentially means that there is a small chance of admission to your first choice program yet, but due to the competitive nature of that program we won’t know until May 15th. It is indeed a bit like being on a waitlist. Please have a look at the student service centre (https://students.ubc.ca/ssc) for an update on your 2nd choice program evaluation.

      Sincerely,

      Damara
