This interdisciplinary program offers courses in First Nations and Endangered languages at all levels, from introductory to advanced.

Study European languages, history, art, music, literature, philosophy, geography, sociology, anthropology, politics, and economics in a broadly based concentration that will extend and deepen your knowledge of European issues.

This two-year studio program offers workshops in the following genres: fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, writing for children, translation, stage play, radio, television, song lyric and libretto, screenwriting, new media, and writing for graphic forms.

Learn about the culture, history, and mythology of the ancient Mediterranean world, explore world religions in a comparative context, and investigate the history and material culture of the ancient Near East and ancient Egypt.

The Program in the Study of Religion provides a solid education in a variety of religions from a number of disciplinary perspectives. It incorporates different regions and historical periods while allowing you to focus on the religious traditions of your choice. You'll discover a range of approaches to religion, including literary, historical, cultural, anthropological, psychological, and sociological methodologies.

Gain experience in the creation and critical dissection of media across forms, and its multifaceted influence on society, while becoming a member of a collaborative community of students, scholars, and creative professionals. This cohort-based interdisciplinary program includes a core curriculum of courses from across the Faculty of Arts and BMS-exclusive interdisciplinary MDIA courses, alongside media focus areas for you to specialize. The BMS provides the breadth and depth of skills, knowledge, and experience needed to thrive in rapidly-evolving media fields.

Learn how to use and improve computers while you explore topics such as databases and operating systems, software engineering, security, web development, and numerical methodology. Computer Science gives you a thorough grounding in computer software design, and a broad choice of other studies in computing. This program is ideal if you have a strong interest in computer science and the arts.

Mathematics majors apply math, probability, statistics, and the principles of business and finance to analyze statistical data and assess business risks. Mathematics at UBC provides an excellent balance of pure and applied mathematics and is useful, important, and interesting.

This Arts program provides you with a grounding in the principles and techniques used by intelligent systems, both natural and artificial. It emphasizes the study of existing systems (i.e., linguistics), the design of new ones (i.e., machine intelligence), and the design of interfaces between different forms of intelligent agents. You can choose to specialize in Cognition and the Brain; Language; or Mind, Language, and Computation.

Gain a deep understanding of the economy and examine the social, cross-cultural, and ethical dimensions of economic decision-making. You’ll learn how to choose and apply appropriate quantitative methods to a range of economic issues, and effectively communicate complex economic issues. Your studies will include courses such as “Introduction to Game Theory and Applications” and “Economics of Renewable Resources.”

Urban Studies provides a comprehensive conceptual and applied foundation for those who seek to shape cities. Students graduate with the fundamental tools needed to influence urban development.

Gain a deeper understanding of pertinent world issues such as international diplomacy, global economics, security, and much more. Your coursework will span myriad subjects, from geography, anthropology, and Asian studies, to political science, sociology, and food, nutrition, and health.
