UBC Welcomes You – Okanagan campus

Spend the day with us!

UBC Welcomes You is your opportunity to explore the UBC Okanagan campus, connect with future classmates, learn about your faculty and get to know your UBC community.

What to expect

The day will start with a welcome celebration in the gymnasium, followed by various information sessions and housing tours. After the morning sessions, a delicious BBQ lunch will be provided for all UBC Welcomes You students, family members and guests in the Central Courtyard. In the afternoon, you’ll have dedicated time to attend your faculty session, meet your professors, and explore program-specific study spaces.

Who should attend?

We encourage you to attend this event if you:

  • Are deciding whether to accept your offer from UBC Okanagan
  • Have accepted your offer of admission to UBC
  • Are a family member or guardian who wants to learn more about UBC Okanagan

  • Saturday, May 10, 2025
  • Event time: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Advising sessions (optional): 3:30 to 4:30 pm

9:45–10:30 am  Gym Welcome celebration and presentation
10:30–11:30 am  Various Student information sessions and parent/guardian information sessions
11:30 am–1:30 pm  Central Courtyard Information fair with campus resources, housing tours, and free time. BBQ lunch is provided for students and family members. Use this time to explore the variety of campus partners and to stop in the UBC Bookstore (offering event attendees 20% off on May 10 only).
1:30–3:00 pm  Various Faculty sessions. Get to know your faculty and program-specific study spaces.

3:00 pm  The event concludes. Thanks for spending the day with us!
3:30-4:30 pm  COM 201 Optional: Get to know your Academic and Career Development Advisors. This presentation discusses selecting and registering courses and other supports available to students.

Accommodations

Considering staying over or extending your visit to Kelowna? We have several convenient options for you.

Stay on campus:

On-campus options include Studio, One Bedroom and 4 Bedroom Suites as well as traditional dorm-style rooms.

UBC Conferences and Accommodations is offering a 20% booking discount for UBC Welcomes You attendees. Guests must be 18 years old or be accompanied by someone 18 years old or older to stay in campus accommodations.

We encourage you to reserve your room at the promotional rate before May 8, 2025. 

Stay off campus:

Four Points and Hampton Inn and Suites are both close to campus with shuttles available to take you back and forth. Both hotels are offering a 10% booking discount for UBC Welcomes You attendees.

Getting to campus

Air travel

Flying to Kelowna

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is the primary airport in the area and is a 5-minute drive from the UBC Okanagan campus. Airlines that fly into YLW include WestJet, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Air North, Flair Airlines, Central Mountain Air, American Airlines, and United and Delta Airlines.  

Getting to campus from the airport:

  • If you wish to take a taxi, there is a 24-hour taxi service from the airport, serving the campus and other regional destinations.
  • If you wish to use a ride-hailing service, Uber and Uride are the authorized ride-hailing providers at the airport.

When making arrangements to be picked up on campus, you can direct drivers to meet you at one of the campus’s dedicated passenger pick-up and drop-off areas:

  • In front of the Engineering, Management & Education (EME) building at 1137 Alumni Avenue
  • Opposite the Creative & Critical Studies (CCS) building at 1148 Research Road
