Transfer students outside Canada

If you are currently taking courses at a college, university, polytechnic institute, or institute of technology outside Canada, it’s important to review the general requirements for the degree program that you’re interested in, along with your major or specialization.

Transferring from polytechnic institutes and institutes of technology

You must have completed an academically suitable two-year diploma from a recognized institute of technology, polytechnic institute, or junior college. Be aware, though, that courses are generally not transferable.

UBC will require:

  • Official transcripts from your institution
  • Final secondary school transcripts
  • If required, translations of transcripts and course descriptions into English

After you submit your application, you will receive an email that lists the documents that you and your post-secondary institution need to submit.

Required documents must be sent as soon as possible to UBC’s Undergraduate Admissions Office. Please ensure your school sends your transcript directly to UBC. For more information, read our guide on how to submit your documents.

Transferring from other institutions

You must present a minimum of one full academic year of degree-level studies at a recognized post-secondary institution before applying to the second year of a program at UBC’s Vancouver campus.

The equivalent of at least 24 UBC semester credits are required. However, you are strongly encouraged to complete the equivalent of at least 30 UBC semester credits before applying. If you have less than 24 transferable semester credits, you will be evaluated on the basis of both final secondary school grades and post-secondary grades.

You will be assessed on all academic university-level courses taken, including failures and repeated courses. If you have more than one year of suitable course work, the emphasis will typically be on your most recent academic year.

You will also be required to meet the competitive grade point average for the program to which you are applying. You must also meet the additional eligibility requirements that you can find on our university and college transfer students page, and in the Admissions sections of the UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver Academic Calendars.

After you submit your application, you will receive an email that lists the documents that you and your post-secondary institution need to submit.

  • Official transcripts sent directly to UBC from your post-secondary institution, showing courses completed as well as a list of courses in progress.
  • Final secondary school transcripts.
  • Final official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended as soon as they become available.
  • Course descriptions for the evaluation of transfer credit.
  • If required, translations of course descriptions into English.

Required documents must be sent as soon as possible to UBC’s Undergraduate Admissions Office. Unless you receive instructions to initially upload documents, please ensure your school sends your official transcript to us directly.

For some programs, we may also require you to submit a personal profile, supplemental application, portfolio, or audition. Take a look at your Faculty-specific requirements to find out more.
