UBC-Langara Indigenous Transfer Partnership

The UBC-Langara Indigenous Transfer Partnership is a collaboration between the University of British Columbia and Langara College that offers Indigenous students a clear pathway to a UBC degree. Through the Partnership, you’ll gain access to scholarships and awards, personalized advisor and faculty guidance, and the academic and personal preparation required to successfully transition from Langara to life on UBC’s Vancouver campus.

The term “Indigenous” refers inclusively to status and non-status First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples of Canada, in accordance with the BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), which defines “Indigenous peoples” as aboriginal peoples under section 35(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982.

Step 1: Apply to Langara College

You must submit your Langara College application via the EducationPlannerBC website. Be sure to self-identify as an Indigenous person of Canada on your application.

Step 3: Create a transition plan

Connect with the Langara Indigenous Education and Services team and the UBC Community Liaison Manager to begin planning your courses for your degree program, and to find out when you should submit your application to UBC. Please note, some programs have required first- and second-year courses, and promotion requirements. Please connect with the UBC Community Liaison Manager for course selection prior to registering for courses at Langara College.

Step 4: Meet UBC’s admission requirements

As a Langara transfer student, you must meet UBC’s general admission requirements for transfer students from a Canadian college and your chosen faculty’s specific requirements on the Vancouver campus (listed below) before applying to UBC. It takes two semesters of full-time study to earn 24 credits, so most students spend one or two years at Langara.

You must complete UBC’s general admission requirements and the faculty-specific requirements no later than April 30 in the same year as your September start at UBC. As indicated below in the faculty-specific requirements, some programs will also require you to complete high school prerequisites, or the equivalent in approved university-transferable coursework. Please see UBC’s high school admission requirements as directed.

Step 5: Apply to UBC

Once you are on track to successfully complete UBC’s general admission requirements and your faculty-specific admission requirements by April 30 in the same year as your September start at UBC, your next step is to apply to UBC before the application deadline. The UBC application opens once a year in early October. We have an early application deadline of December 1 (you can be considered for the Centennial Scholars Entrance Award – for more information, scroll to the awards section below), and a final application deadline of January 15. Please connect with the Community Liaison Manager if you require an extension.

An application fee via credit card is required to submit your application. If financial difficulty keeps you from submitting your application, please email the Community Liaison Manager to discuss your options.

Step 6: Next steps

UBC Undergraduate Admissions will request your official Langara College transcripts on your behalf. If you have attended additional educational institutions since high school, you will be responsible to submit those official transcripts. Please monitor your email inbox regularly, UBC Undergraduate Admissions will communicate when and how to submit any required documents.

Admissions decisions will be provided any time after receiving all final official transcripts, and no later than the end of June.
