The Bachelor of Arts Degree at UBCO combines core learning with diverse studies in social justice, sustainability and Indigenous content, preparing students for global citizenship and a wide variety of future paths.  Rooted in the humanities, social sciences, and creative arts, students engage with a wide range of disciplines — for example, literature, art, digital media, cultural studies, economics, political science, international relations, geography, philosophy, psychology, and gender studies — to better understand diverse cultures and communities, while developing the ability to think critically, be creative, solve problems, and communicate effectively.

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) at UBC Vancouver gives students the freedom to explore more than 70 areas of study across the humanities, social sciences, and fine arts. Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urbanism (Vancouver)

The Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urbanism is a cross-disciplinary program that explores how design shapes culture, society, and the environment across scales ranging from the body to the city. Through small studios, hands-on learning, and engagement with Vancouver’s communities and sustainable design culture, students build the critical and practical skills needed to pursue graduate studies or diverse careers in the design professions.

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Okanagan)

The Fine Arts Degree at UBCO offers a perfect balance of studio work and academic study, giving students hands-on experience in contemporary art while combining creativity with research across visual arts, digital media, eco art, Indigenous media arts, art history, visual culture and the digital humanities. Students can learn the basics in a wide variety of different media and performance-based courses – everything from Introduction to digital media to painting, drawing, photography and acting for stage and screen.

Bachelor of Media Studies (Okanagan)

The Media Studies Degree at UBCO is a Computational arts degree which mixes code-based art and design-making in creative arts and digital humanities. Think augmented reality, coding (from a creative aspect), animation, virtual worlds & game creation. In this program you will create work and art that helps people connect, and use technology to help us relate to each other.

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) at UBC Okanagan is a generalist teacher education program that prepares future educators to thrive in today’s diverse classrooms. With a strong focus on inclusive, innovative, and community-connected teaching, the program blends coursework with hands-on practicum experiences in local schools. We offer two pathways: Teaching Children (Kindergarten to Grade 5) and Teaching Adolescents (Grade 6 to 9+). Students may choose French as their language of instruction in either pathway.

The BEd is a post-degree program, meaning applicants must first complete a recognized undergraduate degree before applying.

The Bachelor of Education (BEd) is a post-baccalaureate program that prepares future teachers and leads to certification to teach in K-12 in the BC public and independent school systems.

What type of student succeeds in this degree program?

  • Those who are interested in mentoring future generations, and committed to Truth and Reconciliation, and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization.

What are the strengths of this program?

  • UBC’s Faculty of Education is the largest in the province, and educates nearly half of the teachers in BC, with the widest range of program options and teachable subjects.
  • The intensive, 60-credit BEd program spans over 11 months, preparing pre-service teachers for certification and the teaching profession in an accelerated format. Excellent job market with decent salary and opportunities to teach across Canada and abroad.
  • As a post-baccalaureate professional program, students have their post-secondary years to explore various areas of study. Students may apply in Year 4 of their bachelor’s degree, or after they graduate with their bachelor.

Indigenous Teacher Education Program (NITEP) (Vancouver)

This teacher education program addresses educational issues pertinent to public and First Nations schools settings where Aboriginal children attend school. You’ll develop the skills and academic knowledge expected of beginning educators, complete a specialization in Indigenous Education, and prepare to teach at the elementary, middle, or secondary school level.

Bachelor of Applied Science (Okanagan)

Engineering at UBC is offered at both the Okanagan and Vancouver campuses and is ranked 31st in the world. At both campuses, undergraduate engineering students start in the foundational first year.  At the end of first year, engineering students at the UBC Okanagan campus will select from one of five programs: Civil, Computer, Electrical, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering. UBC’s Global Resource Systems degree uniquely combines the sciences, humanities, and real-world experience as students learn about emerging global issues related to natural and agricultural resources. Bachelor of Sustainability (Okanagan)

The Bachelor of Sustainability program is designed to enable students to understand and address complex sustainability challenges by integrating and applying knowledge from different disciplines. Students take a core suite of integrative sustainability courses and other required and elective courses spanning three faculties and multiple departments with the same peer group during each of their four years in the program. Students also choose from one of four specializations that is closest to their specific interests and that will enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be most effective in their respective sustainability career domains. 

Core to the BSust are the multi-year community service learning and final year capstone courses, where students apply and hone the knowledge they’ve gained. Graduates from the Bachelor of Sustainability program are well positioned to contribute to solving highly complex, real-world challenges that can only be addressed when people work together – people with diverse views, values and skills.

Bachelor of Urban Forestry (Vancouver)

Urban greenspaces are among the most cherished community features to gather, recreate and unwind. Research has linked these spaces to numerous physical and psychological health benefits. In UBC’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology, students explore the real-world application of the life sciences to the management of land, animals and food production. Applied Biology in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems is different from other biological sciences programs: students can customize it to learn about what’s most interesting to them. The program is built around practical learning experiences, critical thinking, and a systems approach that integrates technical knowledge with sustainability and ethics.
